What are you up to today?
It might be a workday for you, or maybe you’re about to unplug for some fun or relaxing downtime.
If the latter sounds far too indulgent, as you count up the list of things you still need to do, you’re not alone. Many people I work with find it difficult to fully switch off because there’s always something to be done.
It’s like that nagging, squeaky door. It will squeak incessantly until you arm yourself with your WD40 and sort it out.
But oh, the relief, the joy, the satisfaction when you finally do take care of it!
Some tasks may not feel like immediate priority so we let them build up over time.
Emails, logging expense receipts, files in your computer downloads folder, to name but a mere few.
Yet at a certain point, that backlog or unresolved task can start to get in the way. Our focus is compromised, our stress levels rise, and our ability to handle incoming work may wane as we struggle to keep up with everything else.
So what’s been squeaking at you for a while now?
- Where are you behind?
- What needs addressing?
- Who needs calling?
- What needs fixing?
- What needs doing?
Give yourself a small victory and sort something out today, even the smallest task will make you breathe a great sigh of relief.
…Or, go big and do something mammoth if you have the time!
This week I helped one of my clients sort out a towering in-tray of paperwork. We sorted, filed, shredded and took action on all actionable documents. The task was long overdue, and as you can imagine, incredibly satisfying as we got through it all.
Sure, she’ll still have to handle new incoming paperwork. However, she’s greatly relieved to be caught up with the backlog. Not to mention, weekly maintenance will be much easier to manage.
…What would make you breathe a huge sigh of relief?
…What would take your stress levels down at least a few notches?
…What would give you undivided attention for your most important tasks, if you were to sort it out today?
Reach for the WD40 and win a small – or large – victory for yourself …and your business!
