Could you use a quick win today?

Could You Use A Quick Win Today?

Do you feel busier than a centipede at a foot washin’? Expression credit to my Texan Mother 😉

The busier we become, the trickier it is to stay organised.

If you’re barely managing to stay on top of your work day, it won’t take long before your office turns chaotic and disorganised.

And that can feel unsettling. Especially when you’re juggling work priorities and don’t feel justified taking a few days out to fully re-organise your office.

So here’s a compromise:

Indulge in a Quick Win today.

Grant yourself a mini-organising session – in one defined area only – to give yourself a reprieve.

It doesn’t matter so much what it is, sorting out one small area will do wonders for your stress levels and your mental well-being. You’ll enjoy a burst of satisfaction, plus a burst of energy to carry on with other work.

You’ll also find this exercise particularly helpful if you’re in the midst of a big project where you won’t see the finish line for a while.

Sometimes we need that sense of completion! Know the feeling?

And if an area in your environment is distracting you from important concentrated work, then stopping momentarily for a quick win could mean a real win-win to boost your focus and productivity.

So, look around your workspace. What would give you a quick win today?

Consider one of these common offenders I often see in working with my clients. If one of these listed below resonates with you, select it, conquer it, then get on with your day:

  • Untangle the mess in your top desk drawer.
  • Sort the stationery cupboard so items don’t fall out when you open the door.
  • Perform a quick – and ruthless – sort and purge of your business cards.
  • Assess those bits of paper, envelopes and napkins with scribbled phone numbers and notes. Record what you need, toss the scraps. In case you missed my last post: Do You Need A Notebook For Your Notes?
  • Go on a scavenger hunt for your business receipts to get them all together.

Or target another area that gives you repeated frustration.

You wouldn’t repeatedly bang your head against a wall, would you? I didn’t think so. So why put yourself through repetitive frustration syndrome?

Aim for the thing that will make you say, “Ahhhhhhh what a relief to have that sorted!”

The idea is to allow yourself just enough time – a mere snippet – to restore a glimpse of order, without the task consuming your day.

That’s right, the rabbit hole is off-limits!

Chances are you’ll have several other niggling areas, so if you’re up for it, assign yourself one quick win each day. Make it a daily challenge!

Don’t underestimate the little things. One small area fully sorted-out-and-organised is very satisfying.

What will you choose for your quick win today?
