“Wake up with determination. Go to bed with satisfaction.” ~Unknown
Ahhhhh, is there anything as satisfying as that first cup of coffee (or your favourite morning beverage)?
With the exception of the second cuppa, I’d suggest a pretty strong contender is ending the workday satisfied.
That fulfilling feeling from having successfully executed those tasks you set out to do.
When’s the last time you said to yourself: “Wow, what a satisfying, productive day!”
Been a while?
Here are a few thoughts to help make that happen more frequently:
Visualise
Spend a few minutes thinking through how you’d like your day to pan out. Visualise yourself working through the day, engaging in your top tasks, communications, and the like.
What would you like to accomplish? See yourself physically doing it.
How would it feel to finally start that new project, or make considerable headway on an existing one?
What if you focused instead on bringing an unfinished task to full-circle completion? That would be satisfying, wouldn’t it!
Talk it through
Verbalise and articulate – even if only to yourself – what you imagine yourself doing today that you’d feel great about. State out loud what you achieved as if you’re reporting back on the day.
Ask yourself why it would be so great, important, and beneficial if you achieved those targets.
Plan for obstacles
Consider what obstacles might get in the way and strategise how you might avoid or overcome them, such as dealing with interruptions, etc.
Call on past experience
Before you begin, reflect on past experience when you made a plan, did what you said you would, and ended the day victorious and satisfied with your work.
You’ve done it before, which means you have the capacity to do it again and again.
So set forth with an attitude of determination and execute what you planned.
– Set those intentions.
– Start the day with determination.
– Put the kettle on.
– Put your blinkers on.
– Honour your commitments.
– End the day with satisfaction.
Let’s go!
What else do you do to end your workday satisfied? I’d love to hear!
