Do you show up for yourself? 1500

Do You Show Up For Yourself Each Day?

How will you show up for yourself today?

Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day. ~Jim Rohn

Agreed, we have a tight twenty-four hours.

So much to do, so little time. We race the clock to ‘fit it all in’.

Work responsibilities. Family commitments. An assortment of external demands.

We’re showing up in all sorts of places for all sorts of reasons and for all sorts of people.

The question is, how are you showing up for yourself?

Pause for a moment and think about it.

What do you do for yourself whether it affects anyone else or not?

Here are five areas to consider with suggested remedies to help…

1. Looking after the machine – Hand on heart, do you get enough rest and sleep? Do you look after yourself with the right nutrition and exercise?

>>>Show up for yourself by taking your personal care seriously. Think ‘well-oiled machine’, and not garbage-in-garbage-out. Our machine won’t run well if its neglected.

Treat yourself by staying fit, healthy and recharged. Your efforts will pay dividends in overall mood, energy and productivity.

2. Looking after your calm – Identify your most frenzied, harried time(s) of day. Is it the morning scramble? Are you frequently running late to appointments? Or do you throw yourself into a tailspin by waiting until the last minute to prepare?

Admit it, at times we’re the very cause of our own chaos. Not a nice way to treat ourselves, is it?

>>>Show up for yourself by making the effort to proactively avoid or pre-empt such instances.

For example, prepare in advance. Get up earlier to give yourself some extra time to get moving before the bustle of the day rolls in. Build in extra commute time before you head out on your next journey.

Aim for peace of mind. Always be thinking how you can save your future self from moments of panic. Regular doses of mindfulness and meditation won’t hurt, either.

3. Looking after your living and working environments – How easily do you live in your home? How efficiently do you perform your work? And, importantly, how do you feel in these environments – calm or chaotic, stagnant or inspired?

The state of your living or working space affects you in more ways than you realise. What needs to change to improve the aesthetics, mood and functionality of your space?

>>>Show up for yourself by creating – and maintaining – physical environments that support you, and that you feel inspired to be in. Be ruthless about clearing away anything that is obsolete, in the way or that brings you down in any way whatsoever. I repeat, be ruthless.

Clearing isn’t enough, we must maintain – a few minutes a day will do the trick. We clean, tidy and create atmosphere for guests, don’t we? It’s time to do the same for you, at home and at work.

4. Looking after long-term goals – Taking daily action in areas where we won’t see immediate results can be a challenge, to say the least.

A fitness goal, a sales goal, studying for a degree or certification.

There will be times when the excitement and inspiration we felt at the start will fade, and the efforts may become tedious, or even boring.

Are you avoiding work today on a long-term goal because you don’t feel like it?

>>>Show up for yourself by doing it anyway. Chip away at that goal, especially when you don’t feel like it.

Consider this, if you don’t perform the task or make the effort, who will? Don’t risk missed victory, opportunities or falling behind.

Roll up your sleeves and put the effort in. Be sure to inject some purpose so you’re not just ‘going through the motions’.

Your future victorious self crossing the finish line will thank you a million times over.

5. Looking after your coveted time – How much time do you give away to other’s requests and demands, when you’re already overcommitted?

>>>Show up for yourself by learning to say no. An overcommitted schedule is no good to anyone, especially to you.

It may feel difficult or awkward to say no, or to cut others short when a meeting is spilling over and you have other things to do. But it gets easier with practice. Giving up too much of your time leaves little margin for anything else, and can be an energy drain.

Take hold of the reins. Become the timekeeper and assume responsibility for guarding your time.

Showing up for yourself means doing the things that are good for you so you can be your best self.

Be more productive, more mindful, and in a better position to handle what life throws at you.

Showing up for yourself each day is an act of kindness and a show of self-respect.

What other ways do you already show up for yourself?

What else could you do to show up for yourself today?
